The hotly-contested Assembly Elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand will come to their conclusion on Saturday with the declaration of results.

Stakes are high in both states, however, that is not all, as the results of the by-polls in Punjab, Kerala, Uttarakhand, and a crucial state of Uttar Pradesh will also be declared tomorrow. The results of Uttar Pradesh by-polls will be a huge contributing factor in setting a narrative for the next Assembly polls in the state in 2027.

The Elections for the 81-seated Jharkhand Assembly took place on November 13 and 20, while Maharashtra, which has 288 Assembly seats, went to polls in a single phase on November 23. Now, it all comes down to November 23 when the fates of political leaders in the fray will be decided with the counting of votes.

Bye-elections to 48 Assemblies Constituencies and 2 Parliamentary Constituencies spread across 15 states were also held simultaneously.

Four Assembly seats in Punjab, nine in Uttar Pradesh, one Parliamentary seat in Kerala (Wayanad), and one in Maharashtra (Nanded) went to by-polls.

Date And Time Of Assembly Election Results

The counting of votes for the Assembly Elections as well as by-elections will start at 8 am on Saturday, November 23. The postal ballots will be counted first, after which EVMs will be opened at around 8.30 am at all the counting centres.

The Election Commission’s official website https://results.eci.gov.in will publish the latest trends and results as and when they come.

What’s At Stake In Maharashtra And Jharkhand?

Political narratives were built in the election campaign by both the ruling and the Opposition camps in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

While the BJP attempted to portray its developmental schemes in Maharashtra, along with the “Ek Hai Toh Safe Hai” slogan aiming to unite the Hindu votes, the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi in the state attempted to corner the Mahayuti government over corruption, split of Shiv Sena and NCP.

Following a disappointing show for the BJP-led Mahayuti in the Lok Sabha Elections, the alliance would be hoping to bounce back with a victory in the state. Shiv Sena and NCP, both of which split into two factions in the last five years, will also be under the litmus test of their acceptability among people after they broke away from their original inception.

The Opposition BJP in Jharkhand reiterated its “Batenge Toh Katenge” slogan in Jharkhand while also vowing to free the state from the infiltration problems, whereas the ruling Hemant Soren government attacked to BJP and is hoping to retain power.

As the counting of votes begins at 8 am, the narratives set by the Opposition will also be put to test whether they found any takers among voters.
