As part of the Mahayuti versus Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) fight in the Maharashtra assembly polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress are clashing on around one-fourth of the 288 seats.

The Mahayuti comprises the BJP, Shinde Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar), while the MVA includes Sena (UBT), Congress and NCP (Sharad Pawar).

In Mahayuti, the BJP is contesting 149 seats, Shinde Sena 81, NCP (Ajit Pawar) 59. The Congress has fielded 101 candidates, Shiv Sena (UBT) 95, and NCP (SP) 86.

Smaller parties, including the Bahujan Samaj Party and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), are also contesting, with BSP fielding 237 candidates and AIMIM 17.

While, in total, the BJP is taking on the Congress in 82 of the 288 seats, some of them are friendly fights, with more than the two parties at play. The direct tussle is on 76 seats. Most of these straight fights will occur in Vidarbha, where they will clash in 35 seats, followed by 12 in western Maharashtra, 6 in northern Maharashtra, 10 in Marathwada, and 14 in the Konkan region, which includes Mumbai and Thane.
