CEC Addresses Questions On EVMs
Speaking on the doubts and questions surrounding the electoral roll, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said, “Electoral rolls are a product of transparency and participation. Political parties are involved at each and every stage of preparation of voter list. There is full disclosure and an opportunity to object is given. In deletions or additions, due process is followed rigorously.”
He also dismissed doubts raised by the Congress and other parties on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the election procedure. “There were certain kinds of concerns that were raised (by political parties). It was said that wrongful addition and deletion were made in electoral rolls… It was also said that certain groups are targeted and their names are deleted. Even after giving a reply about EVM – it was said that EVM can be manipulated. However, 15 different parties emerged as the single largest across 30 states/UTs elections since Bihar state elections in 2020,” the CEC said.
“There has not even been one difference in 4.5 crore VVPAT slips counted so far in various elections,” Kumar added, stressing on the credibility of the Indian election process.
Three-Way Battle
The national capital is seeing a three-way battle with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) seeking a third terms while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress are looking to challenge the Arvind Kejriwal-led party and each other. The AAP had swept the 2020 Delhi elections, winning 62 out of the 70 Assembly seats while the BJP had won the remaining eight.
This election, all the three parties in the fray have said they are confident of winning Delhi elections.
Congress candidate from New Delhi assembly constituency, Sandeep Dikshit said, “Congress is prepared for the elections. We are putting forth our vision for Delhi before the people. The issues which are there will remain and we will keep questioning the current Delhi government.”
BJP candidate from Gandhi Nagar Assembly seat Arvinder Singh Lovely said, “After PM Narendra Modi’s address in Rohini, people of Delhi are in full mood to kick out the corrupt and fake AAP… people of Delhi are tired of listening to his accusations for not being able to work…”
Delhi minister and AAP leader Gopal Rai said, “Our preparations for the elections have been completed. Our candidates are working on the ground. The people in Delhi are ready to elect a govt that works, they are ready to elect Arvind Kejriwal… BJP has no CM face; they neither have an agenda nor the leaders. They have already conceded defeat.”
