Sardar Sujan Singh, who casts his vote at the Assandh Assembly constituency in Karnal has retired from the Indian Navy. He has been voting since the time ballot papers were in use.
Sardar Singh had recently cast his vote in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and is super excited for the upcoming state elections as well.
103-year-old Sardar Singh who recently celebrated his birthday on August 16, had joined the Indian Navy from Lahore before Partition. He had served as Chief Mechanical Engineer before retiring.
Born in 1922, Singh joined the naval forces on August 18, 1944. He served for about 24 years.
It is known that Sardar Singh had played an important role in liberating Goa from the Portuguese. Singh’s father had also served in the Army.
Sardar Singh has set an example for others. Known to be regular in morning and evening walks, this centenarian’s lifestyle has influenced many around him.
Though Sardar Singh currently lives in Part 2 of Sector 8 in Karnal, his native place is at Assandh assembly constituency. He casts his vote at Sheikhupura Manchuri village every election, despite staying away, carried over by his enthusiasm.
Sharing his experience, Sardar Singh narrated that he used to vote through ballot paper while he was in the Navy. But over time, he started voting through EVMs.
Urging people to exercise their franchise, Sardar Sujan Singh said that people should cooperate to strengthen our democracy.
According to the Election Commission, there are more than 10,000 voters in Haryana, whose are more than 100 years old.
